Moisture from the Gulf and Mid-Atlantic was pulled northward over the region through the 29th by an upper trough over the Lower Mississippi Valley and a cut-off low off of the Southeastern U.S. coast. This brought a period of heavy rain to the region before a cold front passed on the 30th.
