Strong high pressure over New England and a stalled frontal boundary to the south of the area resulted in persistent northeast winds of 20 to 25 mph with 30 to 35 mph gusts. The resultant surge combined with high astronomical tides coming off a full moon, resulted in widespread minor coastal flooding along southern and western coastal areas of Long Island on September 30th through October 3rd. On October 2, locally moderate coastal flooding occurred along the most vulnerable south shore locales
