Heavy rainfall of three-quarters of an inch to around one inch fell in about 20-30 minutes within the Buffalo Creek drainage in the foothills of the southern Bighorn Mountains. The heavy rain quickly swelled small creeks and streams, causing Buffalo Creek to go from essentially a dry creek to out of its banks in just minutes. The roaring water impacted a rural ranch and roads, but did not damage any structures.
