A very warm and humid air mass was in place over eastern New York during the day on Sunday, May 29th. Although strong upper level ridging was initially in place over the area, an upper level trough started to approach from the west, with a surface cold front moving towards the area from Canada. During the afternoon hours, bands of slow moving showers and thunderstorms broke out over the Schoharie Valley and Helderbergs and slowly moved northeast.
