A short wave moved into the area along the base of a larger trough. This brought a line of storms from north of Houston into deep Southeast Texas that slowly moved through. Flash flooding occurred in Tyler county that lead an earthen dam to break north of Woodville. Moderate flooding occurred along the Neches as the water drained.

A tropical wave moved into the Caribbean in early October and became a tropical depression by the 5th. The system quickly gained strength and obtained category 4 status before shear weakened it back to a category 2.

A cut off upper low over West Texas and a stalled frontal boundary over Southeast Texas produced multiple days of very heavy rainfall over the region. Widespread flash flooding occurred across the area with totals ranging from 5 to 20 inches.
