A well organized monsoonal circulation was in place across Arizona on the 18th, and plentiful moisture streamed northward across the central deserts. The combination of ample moisture and modest instability allowed isolated thunderstorms to develop in the greater Phoenix area during the late afternoon hours. Some of the stronger thunderstorms generated gusty and damaging winds, measured to be in excess of 60 mph. The strong wind gusts pulled the roof off of an apartment complex in central Phoeni
