Scattered thunderstorms developed during the afternoon hours across portions of south central Arizona and they affected areas including the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Some of the storms produced damaging winds that were sufficient to down a number of power poles near Casa Grande. The stronger storms produced locally heavy rainfall; near the community of New River the heavy rains were sufficient to produce an episode of flash flooding.
