Thunderstorms developed across portions of south central Arizona during the late morning hours on August 9th, and some of the stronger storms produced locally heavy rainfall with peak rain rates reaching near 2 inches per hour. Some of the heavier rain occurred over the far eastern portion of the greater Phoenix area, in the areas between Apache Junction and Fountain Hills.
