Widespread showers and thunderstorms developed late in the evening of August 11th and continued overnight into August 12th along and ahead of a cold front that moved southeastward across Iowa. These showers and thunderstorms produced very heavy rainfall across eastern Iowa. Widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches were common across eastern Iowa with some higher amounts of 5 to 7 inches falling within 20 miles of a line from Cedar Rapids to Davenport. An upper level disturbance tracked over Iowa and northern Missouri April 17th and 18th, bringing several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the region. Heavy rains of 3 to 7 inches were recorded over the 48 hour period. This resulted in widespread flash flooding.
