Scattered rain showers developed throughout the day across western North Carolina within easterly flow north of a stationary front. Showers repeatedly developed and moved across the Statesville area from late morning through much of the afternoon, resulting in very heavy rainfall and severe urban and small stream flash flooding in and near downtown Statesville.
