A relatively weak cold front that worked through the state the previous day stalled out across northern Missouri and tracked back northward as a weak warm front and eventual stationary front. Initially, storms were able to initiate in South Dakota along/north of the warm/stationary front and progress east/southeast through the evening and overnight hours of the 8th into the 9th.
