Showers and thunderstorms drifted along a slow moving warm front which was draped across Southern West Virginia during the afternoon of the 12th. This resulted in a prolonged period of rain, with some pockets of heavier rain. One to one and a half inches of rain fell across portions of Lincoln and Kanawha Counties, leading to high water in susceptible low spots.
