A warm front approaching the area combined with a strong low level jet ushering in precipitable water values in excess of 1.5 inches, resulted in flash flooding across parts of New York City and western Nassau County. Much of the area received one and a half to three inches of rain during the event, including Central Park (3.00 inches) and LaGuardia Airport (2.25 inches). The majority of the rain fell during a three hour period, with hourly rainfall rates of around an inch per hour.
