A warm, moist and unstable air mass along the western edge of high pressure centered over the western Atlantic induced numerous showers and thunderstorms across portions of the western North Carolina piedmont. Slow-moving storms over parts of Rockingham County dropped rainfall of 1 to 2.5 inches in a few hours over parts of the county including Madison and Mayodan causing flooding. This was the second time in June that businesses were flooded in downtown Madison. Several larger rivers in Rocking
