An upper-level disturbance interacted with a very moist atmosphere on July 1, generating thunderstorms across the region. These storms resulted in torrential rainfall in portions of Southern Vermont. The airport at Bennington recorded 3.47 inches of rain in four hours during the evening. This rainfall resulted in river flooding along the Walloomsac. A storm also produced a microburst in Bennington County with maximum wind speeds of 100 mph estimated.
