Low pressure moved north from the Florida coast and deepened, passing southeast of Nantucket on Thursday January 4. The storm reached its lowest pressure and strongest pressure gradient as it passed Southern New England. This brought heavy snow and damaging winds to Massachusetts, and caused near-blizzard conditions at Boston, Worcester, and Plymouth.
