Locally heavy downpours over central Mercer County produced flash flooding in several small basins near Athens, WV. Dual-pol radar estimated more than 4 inches fell in a 3-hour period ending around 600 PM EST and an automated gauge measured 4.53 inches in Athens of which 3.5 inches fell in one hour from 420 to 520 PM EST.
