A cold front moved from the Great Lakes across New England during the night of the 18th. The air mass ahead of the cold front was very warm and very humid. Showers and thunderstorms developed well ahead of the front over New York and Pennsylvania, then moved east into New England. There were numerous reports of wind damage in northern and western Massachusetts.
