Low pressure from the Great Lakes moved northeast up the St Lawrence Valley. This moved a warm front across Southern New England in the morning, followed by a cold front in the afternoon. These two periods of showers and thunderstorms brought heavy downpours to the region, with rain amounts as high as four and one-half inches reported in parts of Western Massachusetts.
