Significant amounts of tropical moisture moved into Arizona on Saturday June 16th, associated with the remnants of former Hurricane Bud. The very moist and unstable atmosphere was conducive to the formation of thunderstorms over the lower deserts and during the afternoon hours, strong thunderstorms with heavy rain developed across the northern portions of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
