Isolated to scattered thunderstorms developed across portions of the south-central deserts during the evening hours on July 8th. Conditions were favorable for the formation of strong, gusty and damaging microburst winds and indeed, a number of storms mainly west of central Phoenix produced wind gusts in excess of 50 mph.
