Scattered thunderstorms developed across the greater Phoenix metropolitan area during the afternoon and evening hours on July 9th. Many of the storms produced strong, gusty and damaging outflow winds including microburst winds, that damaged a number of trees and other structures across the area. Many of the stronger wind gusts exceeded 50 mph. In addition to the wind, some of the storms produced hail that was as large as three quarters of an inch in diameter.
