A loosely organized band of thunderstorms developed over southern Illinois during the heat of the afternoon, and then moved southeast. The strongest storm cells within this band produced strong gusty winds, including a few damaging wind events. A surface front was reinforced and pushed south near the Ohio River from overnight and morning convection. In Union County, flash flooding struck the small community of Mill Creek, forcing some residents out of their homes. An elderly woman was rescued by boat from her flooded home, and Route 127 was closed.
