Scattered to numerous thunderstorms developed and moved north across the southwest and west portion of the greater Phoenix area during the evening hours on August 2nd. In addition to gusty and damaging winds, many of the storms produced locally heavy rainfall; trained spotters measured peak rain rates in excess of 2 inches at times. The heavy rains led to episodes of flash flooding to the southwest of central Phoenix and in the Little Rainbow Valley located northeast of the Maricopa Mountains. H
