Numerous thunderstorms developed during the early to mid afternoon hours ahead of a weak cool front approaching eastern Kentucky. A few of these storms briefly reached severe limits, resulting in damaging wind gusts across portions of south central to southeast Kentucky. Flash flooding also became a localized issue in western Knox County as multiple rounds of heavy rain passed through.
