Thunderstorms with very heavy rain developed across portions of the south-central deserts during the evening hours on August 12th. Rainfall with the stronger storms was very intense; a flood control district rain gauge north of Sun City West measured almost 1.9 inches of rain and exhibited peak rain rates in excess of 3 inches per hour.
