Thunderstorms with very heavy rain developed across the deserts southwest of Phoenix and northwest of Gila Bend during the afternoon hours on August 16th. Some of the stronger storms generated intense rains that fell over higher terrain locations such as the Eagle Tail and Gila Bend Mountains; the runoff from these storms flowed into area washes such as the Fourth of July Wash and resulted in some flash flooding.
