Thunderstorms with locally heavy rain developed during the afternoon to the northwest of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Some of the stronger storms generated peak rain rates in excess of 1 inch per hour, and that rain was sufficient to produce an episode of flash flooding in the community of Wickenburg.
