A nearly stationary upper level trough was located just east of the Lower Mississippi River. Deep southwest flow east of the trough axis produced a zone of high precipitable water with values near two inches across east Alabama. Several upper level impulses rotated through the east side of the trough axis and produced periods of heavy rainfall across east Alabama.
