Strong storms with heavy rainfall developed in the late afternoon across parts of the New River Valley including Pulaski, Montgomery and the City of Radford. Water was reported over several roadways including on the Virginia Tech campus and over a dozen buildings on the Radford University campus that were flooded. Rain gage reports ending at 7 AM on the 31st included Radford 0.9 WNW CoCoRaHS (VA-RDC-1) 3.00���, Radford DCP (RDFV2) 2.55���, Blacksburg 0.4 N CoCoRaHS (VA-MN-6) and 2.44

A strong cold front extending from a complex surface low pressure system, brought intense thunderstorms which produced damaging winds and very heavy rain on April 12-13. The heavy rains resulted from a deep plume of tropical moisture lifted northward ahead of the cold front.
