Showers and thunderstorms developed ahead of a slow moving cold front in a very moist and unstable air mass. The storms produced a wind gust to 63 mph in Wausau (Marathon Co.) and torrential rainfall. Twenty-four hour rainfall totals through early on the morning of September 5th were in excess of 3 inches at numerous locations.
