A surface low pressure center deepened as it moved northeast from Louisiana to western Tennessee. Aloft, a deep trough in the Desert Southwest moved east and developed into a closed low over the southern Plains. This low passed south of the Ohio Valley on its way to the mid-Atlantic region by the 16th.
