Locally heavy rainfall occurred over the far north and northeast portions of the greater Phoenix area beginning during the evening hours on January 5th. The heavy rain led to areal flooding in the Cave Creek and New River areas; during the very early morning hours on January 6th an Areal Flood Warning was issued for the Cave Creek area based on stream flow gages in the Cave Creek area that indicated flooding was imminent. Shortly after 0500MST local law enforcement reported a swift water rescue
