A strongly unstable air mass combined with an upper level disturbance to trigger numerous thunderstorms across the northern Piedmont, with a few reports of wind damage and one report of flash flooding. Storms produced a massive outflow boundary and excessive amounts of lightning. Storm coverage was more limited to the south and east in the Coastal Plain and southern Piedmont.
