Above the confluence of the Ohio River, the Mississippi River was above flood stage early in the month in response to melting of record snowpack in the upper portions of the river basin. Below the confluence of the Ohio River, the Mississippi River remained above flood stage all month due to record winter rainfall in the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys.
