Snowmelt flooding, beginning in late March, continued throughout April on the Big Sioux River near Castlewood. A mid-April heavy snow/blizzard event added to the snowmelt runoff and flooding. The river remained well above the flood stage of 9 feet throughout April. The highest stage was moderate stage of 12.6 feet on March 28th. Some roads and cropland were flooded. The flooding continued into May.
