An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms moved over southeast Iowa and west central Illinois, the evening of May 6th. This brought up to 2 inches of rain, which fell on saturated soils and on an area already set up to fight flooding from the ongoing Mississippi River flood. The sandbags from the flood fight, likely worsened the flash flood impacts, as it prevented run off from reaching the river.
