Thunderstorms developed during the afternoon of May 18th over northeast Iowa. Some of these storms remained nearly stationary over Chickasaw County from the late afternoon into the evening and produced rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches. Flash flooding occurred in New Hampton and water went over U.S. Highway 63 north of New Hampton. Some of the initial storms also dropped some nickel sized hail.
