A line of showers and thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front as it moved through central North Carolina. A few of the storms became severe, producing damaging winds. Persistent, training storms overnight produced heavy rain and resulted in localized flash flooding in the cities of Goldsboro and Smithfield.
