Scattered slow-moving thunderstorms developed within a very warm and humid airmass across central Illinois during the afternoon and evening of August 11th. Some of the storms produced very heavy rainfall in a short period time, causing localized flash flooding. One cell dropped 2 to 3 inches of rain in about 1 hour over the city of Springfield. As a result, numerous city streets were flooded.
