A relatively vigorous upper-level trough impacted the Pacific Northwest during mid September. Cold air aloft associated with the upper trough yielded an unstable airmass supportive of strong showers and a few thunderstorms. Training showers and storms produced heavy rainfall near Humboldt Bay resulting in localized urban flash flooding in and around the city of Arcata.
