Late evening monsoon thunderstorms developed across far eastern Riverside County on September 1st, and some of the stronger storms generated locally heavy rainfall with peak rain rates that exceeded one inch per hour. The heavy rains led to episodes of flash flooding along the lower Colorado River Valley north of Blythe. The flash flooding primarily affected motorists driving along Highway 95. According to a report from the department of highways, 7 to 8 vehicles became stuck in flooded portions
