Heavy August rainfall caused the Big Sioux River near and above Watertown to go above flood stage on August 3rd. The gauging site above Watertown just went above the flood stage of 10 feet for a short time period on August 3rd rising to 10.7 feet in the early morning and then back below flood stage in the early evening. The gauging site near Watertown rose above the flood stage of 8 feet on August 3rd to 9.7 feet on August 4th and stayed above flood stage until the end of August.
