A clusters of showers and storms moved across portions of the eastern Piedmont and Coastal Plain of central North Carolina during the late afternoon and early evening in a warm, moist and unstable atmosphere. Some of the clusters produced very heavy rainfall, which resulted in localized flash flooding.
