A large complex of strong to severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front during the afternoon and evening as a dry line and cold front moved across the region and interacted with a very unstable air mass. The storms produced widespread straight-line wind damage from Columbus, Kansas to Springfield to Eminence. Rainfall accumulations over an inch were widespread across the area, with localized amounts over one and a half inches.
