A strengthening low pressure system tracked from the central Gulf Coast states on Friday March 7th, into the central Appalachians by Saturday morning on March 8th. The low then tracked into northern New England by Saturday evening. ||Heavy rainfall occurred across southern Vermont from this storm system. This heavy rainfall loosened an ice jam on the Deerfield River in Wilmington, which led to flooding in low lying areas in Wilmington's downtown area.
