A shortwave trough progressing through in westerly flow aloft, coupled with a southward surging surface boundary, intensifying low-level jet, and precipitable water values around 1.5 inches resulted in heavy rainfall across Northern Virginia. Between 1 and 2 inches of rainfall was observed, leading to isolated instances of flooding.
