A robust backdoor cold front for early July standards in southern New England provided the forcing for some strong thunderstorms in northern Connecticut and western Massachusetts in the afternoon. With high humidity and precipitable water values (near two inches), flash flooding occurred when two inches of rain fell in less than an hour in the Hartford metropolitan area.
