Thunderstorms developed over the deserts to the west of Phoenix during the afternoon hours on July 23rd and some of the stronger storms generated locally heavy rainfall. The heavy rain was sufficient to lead to an episode of flash flooding to the southwest of Phoenix, between Gila Bend and Buckeye, just to the west of Highway 85. The flash flooding resulted in the closure of old Highway 80 about 15 miles southwest of Buckeye. The highway was closed by Rainbow Wash and the flooding was captured o
