Early on July 1st, a mesoscale convective system developed over northern Missouri and advanced quickly southward throughout the day. This system moved into a very unstable environment as it reached northern Mississippi late in the afternoon, and the line of thunderstorms produced scattered severe wind gusts as it continued through central and eastern Mississippi. Heavy rainfall associated with these storms also caused some flash flooding.
